The Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw
with Tunisia at the Stade Nyamirambo in Kigali, Rwanda on Friday in
their second game at the ongoing 2016 African Nations Championship.
Chisom Chikatara, who scored a hat trick
against Niger, put Nigeria ahead in the 52nd minute after he was put
through by Moses Okoro, who got the Orange Man-of-the-Match award.
Tunisia’s top striker Ahmed Akaichi
equalised for the North African side in the 70th minute with his third
goal of the tournament.
The first real chance of the game came
in the seventh minute when Ifeanyi Mathew’s shot was deflected towards
the goal but was blocked by the Tunisian goalkeeper.
However, Nigeria goalkeeper Ikechukwu
Ezenwa was the busier of the two shot stoppers. He blocked a couple of
shots including one from Akaichi, who attempted to score from the edge
of the penalty area in the 14th minute and another from Mohamed Ali
Moncer in the 27th minute.
Akaichi eventually headed past Ezenwa in
the 45th minute, but the referee, Joshua Bondo from Botswana,
disallowed the goal, ruling that the ball had gone out before Tunisia’s
Ali Maaloul crossed it from the left.
In the second half, after the two goals
were scored, Kalu Orji cleared the ball off the line in the 77th minute
and Ezenwa pulled off another save in the 90th minute to deny Tunisia a
winner.
With one point from the game, the Eagles
remain top of Group C with four points. Guinea, who played a 2-2 draw
with Niger, are second with two points. Tunisia are third with two
points also while Niger are in the bottom of the table with one point.
The Eagles would take on Guinea on Tuesday, while Tunisia play Niger in their third and final Group C games.
