Court jails furniture maker for stealing N250


An Osun State Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 26-year-old furniture maker, Ismaila Alani, to three years imprisonment for stealing N250.
The magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko, while delivering the judgment on Tuesday ordered that Alani should spend the next three months at the Ilesa Prison or pay a fine of N2,500.
The convict, who could not pay the fine, was immediately whisked away to the prison. see more stories below



The prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, had told the court that Alani snatched a purse from Mrs. Sanusi Odunola and stole the money there, adding that the act caused public disturbance
Olusegun told the court that Alani’s offences were contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Vol. II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria.
Alani had pleaded guilty to the two counts and prostrated for the magistrate, pleading for clemency.
In a related development, the same court sentenced a 37-year-old, Mathew Adebisi, to four years’ imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.
Olusegun said Adebisi was arrested on January 15, 2016, for stealing the motorcycle valued at N100,000.
The magistrate gave the convict an option of paying N20,000 fine
